Creating Global Opportunities for Young Innovators

At the British International Education Association (BIEA), we believe every young person should have the opportunity to develop STEM knowledge, practical skills and the confidence to address real-world challenges.

Through our international competitions, STEM Star accreditation and youth engagement programmes, we connect students, educators, industry professionals and organisations committed to building a more sustainable future.

To extend these opportunities to more young people, BIEA welcomes partnership enquiries from established organisations interested in representing and delivering BIEA STEM programmes within their country or region.

BIEA International STEM Youth Innovation Competition

The BIEA International STEM Youth Innovation Competition challenges young people to use science, technology, engineering and mathematics to develop creative responses to global sustainability issues.

The competition welcomes students aged 6–18 and university undergraduates. Students participate in teams of three to five, supported by a teacher, mentor or youth leader. Schools and organisations may enter multiple teams.

The programme may include:

  • Student research and project development
  • Practical STEM challenges
  • International mentoring and engagement
  • Online assessment and presentations
  • A student project showcase
  • An international final
  • The BIEA Youth Voice Forum
  • Opportunities to connect with educators, academics, industry experts and young innovators from around the world

Each competition explores a global challenge linked to sustainability and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Previous themes have included ocean pollution, sustainable fashion, food security, reducing food waste and ocean sustainability.

Regional and National Partnership Opportunities

BIEA works with trusted partners to make its programmes accessible and relevant within different educational and cultural contexts.

Depending on local capacity and experience, a regional or national partner may:

  • Promote BIEA programmes through its school, university and youth networks
  • Recruit and support participating schools, teachers and student teams
  • Provide local guidance and communication
  • Organise information sessions, workshops or teacher briefings
  • Coordinate regional activities or selection events, where agreed
  • Identify local mentors, judges, speakers and STEM Ambassadors
  • Develop connections with universities, industry, government bodies and community organisations
  • Support local media coverage and the celebration of student achievement
  • Help participating teams engage with BIEA’s international programmes
  • Contribute local knowledge while maintaining BIEA’s educational and safeguarding standards

The partnership model will be developed collaboratively and reflect the partner’s experience, networks, resources and regional objectives.

Prospective partners should share BIEA’s commitment to accessible education, youth development, inclusion and sustainability. They should also have the organisational capacity and local relationships needed to support schools and young people effectively.

All appointments are subject to BIEA’s assessment, due diligence and a formal partnership agreement.

Organisations interested in becoming a BIEA partner are invited to send a short expression of interest containing:

  • An introduction to the organisation
  • Its experience in STEM, education or youth programmes
  • The country or region it proposes to support
  • Details of its school, university, industry or community networks
  • Its proposed approach to promoting and delivering BIEA programmes
  • The principal contact person and contact details

Following an initial review, suitable organisations may be invited to an online meeting to discuss the potential partnership model, responsibilities and next steps.

Information submitted as part of a partnership enquiry will be treated appropriately and used to assess the proposed collaboration. Where necessary, BIEA may consider a confidentiality or nondisclosure agreement before detailed commercial or operational information is exchanged.
